ST JEROME, PRIEST AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH – WEDNESDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, we honor St Jerome, whose translations opened Scripture to many, and celebrate International Translation Day. Modern technology helps languages meet, but Pope Leo XIV reminds us that it remains a tool. The responsibility to understand, interpret, and communicate faithfully remains human. We pray:

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, TRANSFORM US.
  1. That, following St Jerome’s love for Scripture, the Church may hear anew God speaking through the Gospel of Creation, and respond with faithful action. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That leaders of nations may pursue truth and dialogue, making language a bridge toward peace, justice, and care for our common home. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That translators and interpreters may use their gifts to deepen understanding among peoples and give voice to the needs of creation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That those excluded by language, poverty, or displacement, especially communities suffering ecological degradation, may be heard and upheld in dignity. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the faithful departed may rejoice forever in Christ, the eternal Word through whom all things were made. Let us pray to the Lord.
God of creation, teach us to listen to your Word, to one another, and to the Earth. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
