PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

OUR LADY OF SORROWS — 15 SEPTEMBER

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, we remember when Simeon tells Mary that a sword will pierce her soul, yet her sorrow belongs within the unfolding work of salvation. Like her, may we learn to see suffering not as useless, but as an energy that can be channeled and transformed through love.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, TRANSFORM OUR SORROW.
  1. That Church leaders may be prophetic voices, transforming the suffering they encounter into courageous action for the poor and planet earth. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may hear both the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth, and respond with compassion and justice. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That we may follow the example of Jesus who, driven by love and forgiveness, turned his pain and suffering into a positive and healing force. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That the pain and suffering of our world may become birth-pangs of greater solidarity, fraternity, and care for creation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead, especially those who died amid tragic suffering, may enter the fullness of God’s peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
God of compassion, as Mary’s sorrow became faithful love, transform our suffering into compassion and healing for others and creation. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
