PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

THE NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – TUESDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, as we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we remember Pope Francis’s words: “Mary, the Mother who cared for Jesus, now cares with maternal affection and pain for this wounded world.” With Mary, whose birth heralded the dawn of salvation, let us pray:

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: MARY, HELP US CARE.

  1. That the Church, following Mary’s maternal care, may remain close to the poor and to all creation wounded by neglect and exploitation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may protect communities from ecological disasters and promote ways of building and developing that safeguard both people and the Earth. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That, following the humble example of Mary, we may recognize God at work in what is small and hidden, and cherish every life entrusted to our care. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That mothers struggling to provide for their families, single parents left without support, victims of human trafficking and abuse may find protection, just opportunities, and healing. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead, especially victims of ecological disasters, may share with Mary in the fullness of life promised in Christ. Let us pray to the Lord.
Father of mercy, in Mary’s birth you gave creation the first light of approaching salvation. Through her intercession, teach us to care tenderly for this wounded world and for one another. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
