PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

FEAST OF ST MATTHEW, APOSTLE AND EVANGELIST - MONDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, Jesus calls Matthew from the tax collector’s table. Pope Francis reminds us that money and possessions are not ends in themselves but gifts meant to serve the common good. May Christ convert how we earn, spend, collect, and share the goods of the Earth.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, CONVERT OUR HEARTS.
  1. That Church leaders may teach that having more also means giving more, so that everyone may have access to life’s basic needs. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may ensure that carbon credits and environmental policies bring real change rather than allow wealthy countries and sectors to continue excessive consumption. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That, following Saint Matthew, tax collectors and public servants may see their work as service and administer public resources with honesty and fairness. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That taxpayers’ money may never be lost to corruption but serve the common good, especially by providing food, healthcare, education, housing, and a healthy environment for the poor. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead may rejoice as the goodness they shared continues to bear fruit in generations that follow. Let us pray to the Lord.
Merciful God, free us from greed and teach us to receive, use, and share your gifts for the good of all. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
