PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

FEAST OF THE EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS — MONDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, we look upon the tree of the Cross as a sign of life and reconciliation. In the words of Pope Francis, “One Person of the Trinity entered into the created cosmos, throwing in his lot with it, even to the cross.”

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, RENEW ALL CREATION.
  1. That priests and consecrated persons experiencing difficulties in their vocation may find in the Cross the enduring love of Christ and the support of caring communities. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may learn from the Cross to choose service over self-interest and safeguard both vulnerable communities and the ecosystems that sustain them. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That, following the example of Christ, we may learn the value of sacrifice, resisting immediate satisfaction for choices that care for others and creation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That those who suffer from life-threatening natural disasters may find healing and once again experience “soil, water, mountains” as a caress of God. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead may share in Christ’s victory on the Cross and enter the fullness of eternal life. Let us pray to the Lord.
God of life, through the Cross of your Son, reconcile all things to yourself. Teach us to protect creation and bring life where there is suffering. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
