PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

25th WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - TUESDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, Jesus enlarges his family to include all who hear God’s word and act upon it. Pope Francis calls the Earth “a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us.” May we recognize and care for the wider family to which we belong.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, MAKE US ONE FAMILY.
  1. That Church leaders may not only proclaim God’s Word but put it into practice, witnessing through their choices to greater care for our human family and common home. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may break down racial discrimination and every barrier that divides peoples, remembering that all nations share one common home. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That we may allow Christ to free us from prejudices and divisions that prevent us from recognizing others and creation as members of one universal family. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That our care for threatened species may go hand in hand with care for people threatened by trafficking, poverty, abandonment, and exclusion. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That all the dead may be gathered into God’s household, where every division is overcome and all find their eternal home. Let us pray to the Lord.
God our Father, widen our hearts to hear your Word, live it faithfully, and care for the whole family of creation. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
