25th WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - THURSDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, Herod hears about Jesus but remains unchanged. Pope Francis warns that our world is experiencing a “third world war fought piecemeal.” Like Herod, we can possess power yet fail to recognize its purpose; may truth move us to use power for the good of all.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, TEACH US TRUE POWER.
  1. That Church leaders may teach that greater technological power becomes true progress only when accompanied by greater responsibility, values, and conscience. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may ensure that nuclear energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and other powerful technologies serve humanity and creation rather than become instruments of domination. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That those treated as collateral damage by economic systems may be heard, especially when markets sacrifice people and nature for profit. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That the poor, homeless, persons with disabilities, and others whose worth is easily overlooked may always be recognized as part of our common concern. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That all the dead, especially those who became victims of technologies turned into weapons of war, may be welcomed into God’s eternal peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
God of peace, convert our power into service and our curiosity into commitment to truth, justice, and care. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
