PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

25th WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - SUNDAY

O

n this day of the Season of Creation, Jesus tells of a servant shown great mercy, yet unwilling to show the same mercy to another. Laudato Si’ warns similarly that in the ecological crisis, “the poor end up paying the price.” Let us pray to show the mercy we receive.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Alternative: LORD, HELP US SHOW MERCY.

1. That the Church may proclaim God’s mercy by standing with peoples who bear ecological burdens they did not create. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. That government leaders and those responsible for economic matters may ensure that environmental costs are borne fairly, especially by those who have contributed most to ecological destruction. Let us pray to the Lord.
3. That, following the example of Jesus, wealthy nations may acknowledge their ecological debt rather than blame poorer populations who contribute least to pollution yet suffer its gravest consequences. Let us pray to the Lord.
4. That those most affected by climate change may be protected from false environmental solutions that benefit the powerful while leaving harmful lifestyles unchanged. Let us pray to the Lord.
5. That the dead, especially those who suffered from poverty and ecological disasters, may find in God the mercy and peace they longed for. Let us pray to the Lord.

God of mercy and justice, free us from making others pay the price for our way of life. Teach us to forgive debts and repair those we have created. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
