"For a long time I have held my peace, I have kept myself still and restrained myself; now I will cry out like a woman in labor, I will gasp and pant" (Is 42:14)

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

24th WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - THURSDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, we are reminded that God’s mercy always opens the way to conversion and a new beginning. In the words of Pope Francis: “Human beings, while capable of the worst, are also capable of rising above themselves, choosing again what is good and making a new start.” Let us pray for this grace.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, HELP US BEGIN AGAIN.
  1. That Church leaders may have the courage to denounce sins against creation and the integrity to match their words with concrete action. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may recognize ecological sin not only in harmful actions but also in failures to protect people, creation, and future generations. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That young people may allow their friendship with Christ to shape the way they live, turn from harmful ways and care courageously for creation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That coastal communities threatened by the exploitation of seas and shorelines may be heard and included in decisions affecting their rights and their damaged ecosystems. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead may find forgiveness for every harm done to God’s creation and enter into the fullness of the Creator. Let us pray to the Lord.
Merciful God, forgive our failures against you, our neighbor, and creation. Help us choose again what is good and begin anew in love. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
