SEASON OF CREATION 23rd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - THURSDAY

Laudato si' (Traditional Chinese version)

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

23rd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - THURSDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, Jesus teaches us to give without expecting anything in return. Laudato Si' reminds us: “We need to take up an ancient lesson… that ‘less is more’.” May we resist seeing creation only in terms of what we can take from it, and learn instead the generosity of God.

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, MAKE US GENEROUS.
  1. That the hearts of Church leaders may be converted to the simplicity of Christ, enabling them to choose simpler ways of living and to lead by example in the responsible use of creation’s gifts. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may uphold the principle of subsidiarity, listening to local communities and empowering them to protect the forests, rivers, farmland, and coastal areas on which their lives depend. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That, following the example of Jesus, we may have the courage to question the status quo of endless consumption and profit, and choose ways of living that give without always expecting something in return. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That those who suffer because wealth and resources are concentrated in the hands of a few may receive a fairer share of the Earth’s goods and opportunities for a dignified life. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead may receive from God the fullness of the life they hoped for on Earth. Let us pray to the Lord.
God of boundless generosity, free us from the desire always to possess more. Teach us to receive with gratitude, to give without counting the cost, and to be merciful as you are merciful. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
