PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION
23rd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - MONDAY
23rd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - MONDAY
O
n this day of the Season of Creation, Pope Francis recalls that Israel observed a sabbatical year when the land itself was allowed to rest, restoring “balance and fairness in their relationships with others and with the land.” As Jesus restores the man’s withered hand, we pray for the healing of our withered relationships with one another and creation:
Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, RESTORE YOUR CREATION.
- That the Church may proclaim the Sabbath as God’s gift of rest and restoration for people, especially the poor, and for the Earth. Let us pray to the Lord.
- That government leaders may protect exhausted lands, forests, rivers, and seas, allowing damaged ecosystems time and space to recover. Let us pray to the Lord.
- That, following the example of Jesus, we may always choose “to do good” and “to save life,” especially when our choices affect creation and future generations. Let us pray to the Lord.
- That those who are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, human rights violations, or disasters may find healing, belonging, and communities of care. Let us pray to the Lord.
- That the dead may enter God’s eternal Sabbath, where all creation finds its fullness and rest. Let us pray to the Lord.
God of life, heal what has become withered through neglect and exploitation. Teach us when to work, when to rest, and always to choose what gives life. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
