PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

22nd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - SATURDAY

I
n this Season of Creation, Pope Francis reminds us that “the time has come to accept decreased growth in some parts of the world, in order to provide resources for other places to experience healthy growth.” May we learn to receive what the earth provides without depriving fellow human beings and other creatures of what they too need to flourish. We pray:

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, TEACH US TO SHARE.
  1. That the Church may stand beside farmers, fisherfolk, and workers whose labor brings the fruits of creation to our tables. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may ensure that farmland and its harvests serve communities and not only the interests of those who can afford to control them. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That, following the example of Jesus, we may never allow rules, customs, or convenience to make us indifferent to the concrete needs of another person. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That small farmers struggling with debt, poor harvests, and rising costs may receive fair prices for their produce and a secure livelihood. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead, especially farmers and laborers who worked the earth throughout their lives, may rest from their labors in God. Let us pray to the Lord.
Lord Jesus, teach us to receive the earth’s harvest as a gift entrusted to all, and to build a world where those who cultivate the land can also enjoy its fruits. Amen.
