PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

A
s we pause during this Season of Creation, Laudato Si’ reminds us: “If someone has not learned to stop and admire something beautiful, we should not be surprised if he or she treats everything as an object to be used and abused…” Asking Jesus for new eyes to behold creation and new hearts to cherish it, we pray:
1. That the Church may help people stop, pray, and rediscover the beauty of God in the land, waters, plants, and creatures around them. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. That government leaders may protect forests, rivers, coastlines, and wildlife from exploitation and destruction. Let us pray to the Lord.
3. That, following the example of Jesus, we may see creation not as something merely to use, but as God’s gift to cherish and protect. Let us pray to the Lord.
4. That those who know hunger not as a religious fast but as a daily reality may receive the support needed to live with dignity. Let us pray to the Lord.
5. That the dead, especially those who taught us to love and care for creation, may behold forever the beauty of God. Let us pray to the Lord.
On this day of the Season of Creation, Lord Jesus, make our hearts fresh wineskins: teach us to stop, notice, and cherish the beauty around us, so that what we learn to admire, we may also learn to protect. Amen.
Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, OPEN OUR EYES.
