PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL DURING SEASON OF CREATION

22nd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – THURSDAY

D
uring this Season of Creation, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that “the deep-set causes of the exploitation of creation stem from the loss of a sense of limits, the desire for domination, the pursuit of immediate profit, and the inability to recognize the God-given dignity of each human person.” Trusting that Christ continues to call us, as he called the first disciples, from old ways of living into a new way of discipleship, let us pray:

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, TEACH US YOUR WAYS.

1. That the Church may proclaim the Gospel by fostering gratitude, restraint, and reverence for the abundance of creation. Let us pray to the Lord.

2. That government leaders may resist greed and short-term profit and safeguard the earth’s resources for present and future generations. Let us pray to the Lord.

3. That, like Peter who left everything to follow Christ, we may leave behind business-as-usual thinking that exhausts the earth and embrace a new way of living. Let us pray to the Lord.

4. That those whose livelihoods depend on the seas and other natural resources may enjoy decent work and sustainable livelihoods. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. That the dead may be gathered into the fullness of God’s eternal kingdom. Let us pray to the Lord.

On this day, Lord, teach us to receive creation’s abundance with gratitude, respect its limits, and share its gifts with all. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
