22nd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - TUESDAY

O
n this day of the Season of Creation, we recall Pope Benedict XVI’s words: “The external deserts in the world are growing, because the internal deserts have become so vast.” Trusting in Jesus, whose word has authority to free us from what possesses and diminishes life, we pray for the healing of our hearts and our common home:

Response: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
Alternative: LORD, HEAL OUR COMMON HOME.
  1. That the Church may proclaim Christ’s liberating word and inspire conversion in how we care for creation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. That government leaders may protect our common home and promote decisions that allow people and creation to flourish. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That, following the example of Jesus, we may confront the greed, waste, and indifference that harm the earth and choose simpler, life-giving ways. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. That those who suffer from drought, pollution, disasters, and environmental destruction may receive protection and hope. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. That the dead may enter the fullness of God’s renewed creation. Let us pray to the Lord.
On this day, Lord, heal the deserts within us, that through our conversion, the earth may also find healing. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
