28 September 2025, World Rivers Day, International Day for Universal Access to Information, and National Seafarers’ Day
Gospel: Luke 16:19–31
On this day of the Season of Creation, we celebrate World Rivers Day, International Day for Universal Access to Information, and National Seafarers’ Day in the Philippines. The Church also celebrates this week the Jubilee of Migrants and Missions with the theme “Migrants, missionaries of hope.” With hearts open to God’s call to be missionaries of hope through solidarity and inclusivity, we say: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER or MAKE US MISSIONARIES OF HOPE.
1. That the Church may remain faithful in proclaiming Christ’s compassion, so that migrants, missionaries, and all the poor of the earth may find in her a home of welcome and hope. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. That governments, regardless of religious faith or tradition, may work together to defend and promote peace, justice, and human fraternity. Let us pray to the Lord.
3. That through the Global Conference on Universal Access to Information, to be held in Manila, peoples and nations may ensure free, truthful, and responsible access to environmental information in the digital age. Let us pray to the Lord.
4. That those who suffer from displacement, environmental harm, or economic injustice may be comforted, and that rivers—the lifelines of creation—may be safeguarded for generations to come. Let us pray to the Lord.
5. That our beloved dead may find safe harbor in the eternal embrace of Christ. Let us pray to the Lord.
On this day, O God of mercy, we entrust to you migrants, missionaries, seafarers, and all who journey in hope. May rivers flow clean, truth be accessible, and your people live as one family. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for Creation from Laudato Si’
This prayer by Pope Francis appeared at the end of his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si'. It is for all who believe in God who is the all-powerful Creator.
All powerful God,
you are present in the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle,
for justice, love and peace.
