"For a long time I have held my peace, I have kept myself still and restrained myself; now I will cry out like a woman in labor, I will gasp and pant" (Is 42:14)

Vatican Announces Theme for World Day of Peace 2026

25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
International Day of Peace and Zero Emissions Day
Gospel: Luke 8:4–15

On this day of the Season of Creation, we mark the International Day of Peace and Zero Emissions Day. The Gospel reminds us that we cannot serve both God and mammon; true wealth lies in justice, love, and right relationship with creation. It is said, “There is no path to peace, peace is the path.”* Today we pray that peaceful protests around the world may prevail through nonviolence, so that humanity may heal as one: LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER or HEAL US IN YOUR PEACE, O LORD.

1. That the Church may guide the faithful to live wisely and simply, using the gifts of creation in ways that build peace and reflect God’s justice. Let us pray to the Lord.

2. That government leaders may enact policies fostering nonviolence, reconciliation, and ecological justice, in the spirit of SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Let us pray to the Lord.

3. That peaceful movements for justice around the world may prevail through courage and nonviolence, inspiring hope among divided peoples. Let us pray to the Lord.

4. That on this Zero Emissions Day, nations may commit to reducing pollution, promoting clean energy, and protecting the future of our common home. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. That those who suffer from war, oppression, or environmental destruction may be consoled by the peace of Christ and the solidarity of the human family. Let us pray to the Lord.

6. That the faithful departed may rest forever in the eternal peace of God’s kingdom. Let us pray to the Lord.

God of peace and justice, you entrusted creation to our care and called us to live as one family. Through the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace, help us to walk the path of nonviolence, protect creation with courage, and heal divisions with love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Creation from Laudato Si’

This prayer by Pope Francis appeared at the end of his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si'. It is for all who believe in God who is the all-powerful Creator.

All powerful God,
you are present in the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle,
for justice, love and peace.
